Mechanical Engineer (Graduate)

The Systems Division of OSIL specialises in the design, build, commissioning and service of real-time data acquisition and monitoring systems for offshore and coastal engineering projects globally.

Due to continued growth, and in order to better serve the increasing needs of the business, we are looking to recruit an additional Mechanical Assembly Engineer to assist with the design, build and maintenance of offshore metocean monitoring systems.

What you will be doing:

This post will comprise a combination of both hands on assembly work with some office/ laboratory based duties and a small amount of overseas fieldwork. This is a challenging role, based in the UK office, that will encompass varied responsibilities:

  • Assist with the design and build of Metocean monitoring systems
  • Specifying and procuring equipment
  • Testing and integrating equipment
  • Configuration and testing of real-time data acquisition software
  • Visits to overseas installations to conduct installation, commissioning and maintenance duties
  • Assist with the preparation of technical documentation
  • Establish technical procedures
  • Take an active role in all QA & HSE relating to projects
  • Providing remote support to on-site clients

  • Engineering background
  • Strong computing and IT knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in written service reports

  • Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English and confident working at heights and be able to pass stringent security checks.

Oceanographic / MetOcean Support Engineer

What you will be doing:

  • Take a lead role in supporting customers post installation on live systems in the field
  • Liaising across the project team to ensure the customer receives the best possible support
  • Feeding information back into the design & procurement team where required
  • Liaising with metocean engineers on site to ensure success
  • Undertaking planned and preventative maintenance, test, calibration and set up of a wide variety of metocean instrumentation where required
  • Contributing to company QHSE management systems
  • Leading on the preparation of project documentation and manuals
  • Individual Project QA

What you will have:

  • Degree Educated in oceanography/ environmental science, physical sciences or engineering
  • Experience in a technical or engineering role
  • A good working knowledge of oceanographic sensors, data loggers, instrument interfaces
  • Working knowledge of IT and telemetry systems
  • A high level working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Passionate, dynamic and an ability to get the task completed
  • Willingness to travel
  • Full driving licence

What you will bring:

  • Demonstrable experience in the use of oceanographic instruments with the deployment/installation of instrumentation in coastal and offshore environments
  • Demonstrable ability of using & programming Campbell Loggers
  • Ideally practical delivery of technical projects, engineering design and experience of working in harsh environments
  • Knowledge of working from various platforms such as ports/quays/small workboats etc
  • Systematic and methodical approach with a fine attention to detail
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Graduate Marine/Environmental Scientist


Oceanography, Maritime, Subsea engineering. Office based, supportive culture, 25 days annual leave, up to 20% travel, discretionary bonus.

The Role

You will respond to, develop and convert business opportunities for new and existing OSIL products & systems. You will be communicating directly with end users from environmental, offshore energy, subsea engineering manufacturers and shipyards on a daily basis, and work with the Director of Sales to develop these leads to a successful conclusion. Our product offerings cover met-ocean data buoys, sediment sampling, oceanographic systems, sub-sea and ASV products. You will be expected to maintain a high level of scientific & technical competence across these product and application areas.

Deliverables

  • Develop and convert new business opportunities for OSIL.
  • Represent OSIL at client meetings, conferences and industry events.
  • Grow existing client relationships for the benefit of the end user and OSIL.
  • Assist our systems & engineering groups to ensure product and system sales are designed and delivered to the highest possible standards.
  • Assist with the tendering process, develop quotes and proposals on a daily basis.
  • Work with OSIL’s global resellers and distributors for the benefit of both parties.

Experience & Qualifications 

  • Higher education in the fields of marine / maritime / engineering.
  • Some sales or commercial success in the maritime or subsea domains.
  • Experience of working with marine technical or engineered products and systems, for instance met/ocean systems, robotic platforms and sensors in private, government or applied research sectors.
  • Strong head for business/ relationship development.
  • Experience with marine sampling equipment, electrical or software systems integration, systems engineering or similar, would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Evidence of Continued Professional and Personal Development inside and outside of your career to date.
